Synopsis:
Orphaned by tragedy, thirteen year old Eli is forced to live with relatives he has never known in Clayton, Oklahoma. Over one summer, he must come to terms with his sudden loss, gain the acceptance of a new family and survive the eccentricities of a rural, 1952 Oklahoma town, Clayton.
Character Breakdowns:
Looking for SAG members able to portray the following:
- ELI – MALE/9 years old/CAUCASIAN, After the sudden tragic death of Eli’s parents, he must adjust to a new life in Clayton, Oklahoma with his aunt, uncle, and cousins.
- SKEETER – MALE/9 Y/CAUCASIAN, Eli’s cousin and the middle of the three Nichols children.
- JD – MALE/12 Y/CAUC, The elder of Eli’s three cousins.
- MARY-BETH – FEMALE/6 Y/CAUCASIAN, The youngest, and only girl, of the Nichols kids–but she’s usually right there with the older boys in their various exploits.
- JACOB – MALE/10Y/AFRICAN AMERICAN, A small, but key role: Jacob is a friend of Skeeter and the Nichols kids, who must navigate the uneasy racial tensions of 1950’s Oklahoma.
- DAYLE NICHOLS – MALE/33 Y/CAUCASIAN, Eli’s uncle, a farmer and father of the Nichols family. He dutifully assumes the role of father to his newly-adopted nephew. He is steely but sensitive.
- PAIGE NICHOLS – FEMALE/31 Y/CAUCASIAN, Dayle’s wife. She is the archetypal farm wife and mother, strong yet nurturing. She and Dayle are two halves of a whole.
- TYLER (M) & CARLA (F) – 30-40′S, AFRICAN AMERICAN, Jacob’s parents. Tyler gets into a fight defending the honor of his wife, igniting a racial clash.
- CAUCASIAN MEN/WOMEN (40-60 range) Will play many smaller but important roles.
Team members will need to be available for read on July 27 and one rehearsal prior to the week of performance.
