Omar Milano’s Film “A Tale for Shmuli” Documents One Family’s Incredible Battle with Breast Cancer

4XWIF.D Chick Flicks Short Films Screening
Film Title: A Tale for Shmuli
Director: Omar Milano
Chick Flicks, WomenInFilm.Dallas’ year-long film series, celebrates their talented membership by featuring four outstanding shorts by WIF.D members. ShortFilmTexas.com was lucky enough to attend the June 18th Event at the Studio Movie Grill in Addison, Texas.
Another of the filmmakers I had the chance to talk to after the screening was a man (yes, men are involved with WomeninFilm) by the name of Omar Milano. Oscar’s documentary film, A Tale for Shmuli, tells the incredibly moving story of how courage and determination can help us overcome the most unexpected situations. One of the situations, in this case, was male breast cancer, a topic rarely spoken about let alone documented for public consumption. I don’t want to relate the entire story because you really need to see this film if the opportunity presents itself as it manages to be educational, painfully moving and yet still make you laugh. (The stars/subjects of the film were actually in attendance that night but they slipped away before I could speak with them!)
A graduate student at the University of North Texas, pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in documentary production, Omar Milano is currently in production of his thesis documentary, about the history of production sound for film.
You can reach Omar at his website http://web.me.com/msounds/msounds/Home.html.
WomenInFilm.Dallas is still accepting submissions for its newly expanded program of the remaining screenings for 2009. CLICK HERE for submission information and guidelines.
