North Texas Filmmaker Russ Pond Sees DVD And Digital Distribution For His Feature Film “Fissure”

BIG congratulations to Russ Pond on his DVD Release for Fissure! Check out part of the article in the Star Telegram about his film and the North Texas filmmaking scene. (Fissure is also available to rent on Netflix…is it in your queue yet?)

Russ Pond, an independent filmmaker based in Euless, directed his first feature-length movie 2 1/2 years ago. But in many ways, his “baby,” a Twilight Zone-esque thriller called Fissure, is still shiny and new. Produced in North Texas with a mostly local cast and crew, Fissure made a few festival appearances, including a screening at the 2008 AFI Dallas International Film Festival, and it has played as a Web series.
But Tuesday August 11, 2009 could be the biggest day yet in the life of this Little Movie That Could: Fissure will finally be distributed nationally on DVD and digitally.
“It’s funny,” Pond says. “We’re about to have our big DVD launch, and people keep saying, ‘Hey, it must feel like your film is being birthed.’ I tell them, ‘No, the baby was birthed more than two years ago. Now he’s in college and graduating and hopefully about to go out and start earning some money!’”
Russ Pond, a University of Texas at Austin graduate who grew up in San Marcos, also is eager to spread the word about filmmaking in North Texas, which is vibrant and growing, yet still flying a little under the radar.
“We have good crews here, good talent, and you can’t beat the Metroplex for locations,” he says. “Prison Break came in a couple of years ago, and it was set in Chicago and Nevada and Panama and they shot it all right here in Dallas.”
