Jettisode 16 – Tips On Padding Your Acting Resume

I wonder what's on his resume?
In Jettisode 16, Actor / Director Jett Garner discusses the finer art of padding one’s acting resume.
Having “hired” said actor I need to go back and look at that resume he gave us so many years ago and see what fictional works of acting he put down. I’m sure there are some classics. Regardless of how you look at it, he got the job and excelled in his role.
Could a little resume padding help you?
Listen and learn.

Ha. If you’re referring to Jett, Jon Grubbs, you’d be lucky to have him on the set.

C’mon guys. We are a tight knit community here in the Texas film and production community. It’s best to be truthful! If you fudge too much, someone’s gonna call you on it and you’ll get the stink eye from A LOT of agents and Casting Directors. Best to keep it clean and work hard and build an honest sheet.

I have come completely clean about my resume in my first years in Austin. But, that is how the game is played. I would not have been where I am now, if it not for my resume creativity in the early years. By the way, I knew then I had the talent and the game to back it up. I am one of the few people you will come across in your lifetime that has been completely honest about being totally dishonest and not making any excuses.

Love your Jettisodes and the honesty you bring with you. It’s because of your honesty and frankness that I would like to talk to you about the comment LA sucks – not that I’m disagreeing with you but would like to be able to email you about some questions I have. My daughter will be graduating from high school and is applying to colleges. I don’t want to say too much at this point but you have my email and if you would be willing would you please email me to that account.
Thanks so much. I look forward to hear from you.

Jett,
must say i am disappointed with this one. Lying or “padding” is wrong, and only leads to further dishonesty in one’s future. Not a good message, and it only makes the process more difficult for those trying to makely it solely on their own salt and honesty. persistence and just plain showing-up is the right answer. do as many gigs as possible. show up to every open casting call and take advantage of opportunities to be an extra or even a grip. be a presence on the scene. do it right!

Hey guys!!!! Great feedback! Look, padding worked for me in the beginning. I don’t do it anymore because I don’t need to. The whole audition process is set up on favorites, networking, ass-kissing, ect. Thus, for a new actor new to Austin I took liberties with my resume and it worked because I had the salt, passion and talent to back it up. I state again, I am one of the few people who have/will be completely honest about being totally dishonest and not make excuses. The very owner/operators of this site cast me in my first feature film- the resume they had was full of padding- yet they are not disappointed in me- they were/are glad I showed up and made their film- so much so they’ve used me several times. One thing you cannot possess in this pursuit is being naive, and it’s naive to think that no one pads their resume and experiences. It’s naive to think that talent alone will open the gates for you- it will get you to a certain point- then you must be one lucky son of a gun to become one of the hollywood elite. You see it everyday- how many talentless mother truckers are being paid to act, write, ect…. Stop being naive, but I love the feedback.
