DFW Filmmaker Richard Crook’s Short Film “Trigger” Mixes MMA Fighters with East Texas Filmmaking Talent
DFW Filmmaker Richard Crook’s Short Film “Trigger” Mixes MMA Fighters with East Texas Filmmaking Talent.

When Dallas / Ft. Worth, Texas area director Richard Crook and local stuntman Brandon Sisson talked about making a short action film, they never would have thought that in just a week later, they will have wrapped shooting on the wild-ride of a film called “Trigger.”
They decided to challenge themselves with making a quality film in a short amount of time. With the help of local screenwriter David Read, a group of MMA fighters, a great location in East Texas, several crew members, and a local model…the challenge became a reality. With such a great resource of talent, Trigger went from concept to screenplay to “in the can” in just six days.
The film is about a group of soldiers out on maneuvers is having a conversation about “triggers” that cause people to want a cigarette. The discussion segways into an urban/military legend about a soldier who is trained from birth to snap out of a seemingly normal existance and into a lethal killing machine when someone utters the “trigger” word.
The film takes the audience into a visual story of this soldier, whose romantic day in the country with his beautiful wife is brutally interrupted by a group of rednecks who kidnap, rape and kill his wife. But as she is dying, she whispers the something into her frantic soldier’s ear that causes a chain reaction of events that leaves the rednecks in a heap of gore…except for the killer, who gets away unseen.
But is the “legend” actually true?

Richard,
What is the total running time on the film? Less than 12 minutes? 20 minutes?
Also, thanks for posting the link to Darryl’s website. Actor’s, and film crew, including myself, take note, you should have your own website beyond myspace and facebook. Well done, Darryl!
Thanks, Richard.

Very cool story line. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Sounds like we won’t have to wait too much longer!

It’s shaping up to be between 15 and 20 minutes. I’m trying to keep it toward 15 to help festival submissions.

This was a very quick, but fun production to be a part of. A screenplay is only as good as it’s production crew and actors. Thank you to Richard and the excellent talent that gave 110% of their energy to the process. This should be a springboard to the future success of some of the cast. We are all looking forwards to the completion of “TRIGGERâ€.
