Synopsis:
The sit-com: everyone will be volunteer and it’s for the web and the production values will be minimal.
The setting is a small-town public access station, which we just happen to have. We are hoping to have 12 episodes and the overall story arc is Will the station get funded because of calamitous events that keep happening. They start out with funding, but things break down, someone flushes a cellphone down the toilet and the Mayor gets ants up his pant legs in the parking lot and goes in the bathroom to brush them off and leans on the sink and pulls it out of the wall–just crazy things like that eat up all the money. They are trying to renovate the foyer and they find out there’s a small chunk of asbestos flooring and they have to have the guys in white space suits get rid of the asbestos at huge cost.
A lot of the show is based on real-life stuff and characters that have been involved with our Bastrop Community Access Station, BCAT. There will be some progress on the main arc of whether the station be re-funded each time, plus each episode will have it’s own arc and resolution. The last show will feature the Mayor bringing his family in to meet the staff at KPOW (the sit com station). It will turn out that everything everyone feared was a disaster will be a fun memory for the mayor, plus his family will not be anything like what we’ve been expecting.
In the first episode (SHIT HAPPENS), a young woman, Dove, maybe a lesbian, gets hired to work at KPOW. Her character will be recurring. She meets three people from the station in her interview, Annabelle, a crazy-sort of old (nearing 70) woman (also recurring), a long-haired Mexican middle-aged man, Jesus, who wears bondage-oriented tee shirts and jewelry with demonic symbols and Biff, a conservative young man, cleancut, and always give the most alarmist politically conservative pov on everything and the gimmick is, everyone listens and then goes on as if he hasn’t said anything. Other occasional characters are Booty Hooter, a local big-haired Texas gal who is on city council and who is an ultra-cheapskate who tries to finagle everything free, perhaps to the point of being ethically questionable, There’s also the mayor, and Priss, a Christian matron who comes in to do character education psas. One other occasional will be a foul-mouthed woman who puts on a sweet face for the camera and who does a how-to show on making stuffed animals or other kitsch. In short, a lot of the characters are sort of on our sketchpads already. One of the shows we’ll make (not a real one, one that’s being made on the sit-com) is a talent show, where everyone will be wretched, of course. It could be great fun.
