Austin, Texas Casting Call For Paramount Pictures Coen Brothers Feature Film “True Grit”
Project Title: True Grit
Project Type: Studio Feature Film
Production Company: Paramount Pictures
Shooting Location: TBA
Start Date: Mar 01, 2010
Director: Joel and Ethan Coen
Project Synopsis:
The Coen Brothers are looking for a 12-16 YEARS OLD GIRL to be the lead of their new feature film, TRUE GRIT.
Character Breakdown:
- Mattie Ross – 14 year old Mattie is a simple, tough as nails young woman. Her steely nerves and straightforward manner are a shocking contrast to the way women behaved in the early century. She’s possessed of true grit and plenty of determination. Enough so, that she insists on going with 2 marshals to hunt down the killer of her father.
NO ACTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
Looking for REAL (scrubbed-down, no make-up), “gritty” girls! Preferably the kind that rides horses, gets dirty & speaks her mind! NOT looking for “theatrical” model types! Rodeo girls (who ride & rope) are best! Not “actor-like / pageant queens.”

Howdy ya’ll,
My name’s Heather Hodge, and I’m from Austin, Texas. I’ve seen the movie, and make way, ’cause I AM Maddie Ross, except my hair is a little lighter. I think I’m a mighty fine actress, and have an array of personalities as big as Texas. One of these consists of bein’ straight- forward, tough, mature, and gutsy. My grandma arty has a home up in McAlester, Oklahoma, a small ways from the real original McAlester’s store. I’ve ridden horses before, and love animals and guns. I’m 13 years old but tall and mature enough to be Maddie.
I’m lookin forward to seein ya’ll Saturday.

hey there! im Logan Kinder, born and raised in the smallest town, it seems like, about 2 hrs from Dallas, close to Graham,Tx – Jacksboro, tx. I am 14 years old, with blue eyes, brown hair. I am average size for my age and weigh around 115 lbs. I am involved in sports, and have been in FFA since i was a little girl. I love riding horses and absoloutely love to be outside, and definetely not afraid to get a little dirt under my nails. I am an independent, and strong person, and think that i could do a unbeatable job as playing the part that Kim Darby did in True Grit. I am a real girl, i dont need makeup to coverup or fancy clothes to look presentable. I feel that i fit this character perfectly! Please feel free to Email me at any time if you feel its necessary, Thankyou!

A few questions….Are you assigning audition times?
Will you really consider a 12 year old for the role? My daughter is really interested in auditioning, but she looks like a 12 year old, not a 16 year old. Do they have to have a lot of riding experience?
We are considering audtitioning, but wanted to get more of a feel for what you might be looking for.
Thanks

Hi, My name is Victoria Richter! I have starred in many performances such as Rebel Without A Cause, I played the main role of Judy. And Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where I played Willy Wonka. Along with many more! I’m a down to earth country girl. I memorize lines easy, my heart goes out to acting! I have been focusing on local performances and such for years! Lately my focus has been on perfecting my grades and singing skills, along with dancing. I do all of these things. My true passion is acting, and when a role like this came along… I new it was for me! I have pretty strawberry blonde hair and freckles, I’m very outspoken and outgoing! You can ask anyone around me! I make friends easily, and can fit into any roll, my theatre teacher told me that! (: I have riding experience! And i can deffinitley have a sweet side, but if you ask me too… I will bring out the mean! I would love to star in your production! And am looking forward to trying out. Unlike all these other people i’m not cocky, and i’m not promising you…”i’m the perfect girl for the role” but I will say… If you pick me, you won’t regret it! I look forward to seeing you at the auditions Saturday!

Curious as to how many girls in Austin actually got callbacks. One of the ladies there indicated during the other open calls (I think there were 4), about 250 girls showed up to try out. In Austin, it was over 500.
I suspect it’s probably about 75 – 100 girls that would have had callbacks but can’t find any details. It’d be great if an Austin area girl got this part.
