Texas Filmmaker Chris Eska’s Film “August Evening” Nominated for 2008 Independent Spirit Award
Texas director Chris Eska is in Minneapolis to show his film “August Evening” to local moviemakers.
Nominated for a 2008 Independent Spirit Award, Eska’s film is up for the Cassavetes Award for Best Film (budget under $500k) and first-timer Pedro Castaneda is nominated for Best Actor alongside Oscar nominees Philip Seymour Hoffman and Don Cheadle.
August Evening follows an aging undocumented farm worker named Jaime and his young, widowed daughter-in-law, Lupe, as their lives are thrown into upheaval. Lupe is more of a daughter to Jaime than his own children, and the two try to stick together… but change is inevitable.

Eska hopes the screening will bring in votes for his film which is nominated in two categories in this year’s Independent Spirit Awards.
