Independent Film Sees One Door Open, One Door Close
For all of you filming in Texas and looking to distribute your films worldwide, we have some news.
Okay, let’s start with the good news.
Cinetic Media, one of independent film’s top film sales companies - with such releases as “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Napoleon Dynamite” - has added a new division to it’s business; finishing funds. Did I mention multi-million dollars in finishing funds. If you have ever started a feature project you know how important finishing funds are. Cinetic now has a one-two punch when it comes to independent film. If you need that little extra to finish up your film this is a great resource. A company that has invested in a feature with finishing funds will want to recover that investment. Cinetic has the ins and means to do just that.

On to the bad news. Independent film distribution has lost the Netlix service Red Envelope. Netflix, which funded more than 100 films, including the Duplass Brother’s “Puffy Chair“, and developed partnerships with many small distributors, elected to end Red Envelope due to conflict of interest and the creation of competition with its Hollywood studio partners. (Oh you gotta love the major studios). The decision places a strain on many indie studios and independent distribution companies.
Ups and downs. There is no business like show business.
