Spread The Word About Astrodome Production Studio Poll on the KHOU-TV Website.

Reporter Kevin Peters offered a great story on Houston’s KHOU-TV, Channel 11 last night about the concept of turning the Astrodome into a motion picture production facility. Cast your vote in favor of this new use for the landmark building. Houston already has a talent agency, a production company and a Spanish language television station hoping to sublease space in the Dome when once the project is greenlit.
Astrodome Movie Studio Details:
There will be over 600,000 sq. ft. of available space within just the concourse areas of the Astrodome (remember the food courts and souvenir areas that encircled the building?) That’s equivalent to an average 18-20 story office building! The ball field has another 140,000 continuous, column free sq. ft. and will become a sound stage that is a producer’s dream come true. Yes, engineers and an acoustician have said this can be done! So agrees the company, Irvine Team, who transformed the Compaq Center into Lakewood Church - a $95 million project with a 16,000 seat television studio. They also transformed the Albert Thomas Convention Center into the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. They are used to thinking and doing big!
Astrodome Studios will be a visionary use for this historical building, it will require the least amount of alteration to the facility, take the least amount of money and time to make it operational, cause the least amount of parking and traffic problems, and be able to accommodate all the Texans games and Rodeo events by careful planning of major productions around them. With the sub-leasing of space to relevant industry companies and support services, survival would not rely solely on the whims of major films or television productions.
