Project Details:
This is a teaser trailer for an upcoming feature by writer/director Rachel Shepherd, MFA student at the University of Texas at Arlington, and graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. This teaser will be used to promote and raise funds for an upcoming feature, tentatively set to start principal photography in summer of 2009.
Casting:
ALLY (F/LATE 20′S-EARLY 30′S) –The girl next door, Cinderella from way down south, Ally takes care of everything, everyone out of necessity. She has no hidden talents or deep, dark desires other than to escape the rut in which she lives her life. Married Brandon straight out of high school and gave birth to Logan while the latter was away at basic training. Works in the gas station her father left to her after his death.
JACK (M, LATE 20′S) – He is exactly the type of guy you’d expect to work in a small town gas station. A good old boy at heart, he is a romantic underneath. The best friend always waiting in the wings.
BRANDON (M/LATE 20′S-EARLY 30′S) – Ally’s husband of ten years, he enlisted in the Army young to escape responsibility. He has just come home from Iraq the same lost child he has always been. Allows Ally to take care of his responsibilities only because he feels incapable. Loves his family but wonders if he is better off away from them.
AMANDA (F, EARLY 30′S) – Ally’s older sister; a task master, a little OCD, the kind of woman who measures all others to herself and finds no one better. Married into money and reminds Ally of this everyday.
JOANNE (F, LATE 40′S TO LATE 50′S) – Brandon’s mother and Ally’s mother-in-law, she is fading more each day into her own mind. Recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, Ally is all she has.
LOGAN (M, 8-13) – Ally’s wise-beyond-his-years son. He is her confidant, her rock. The one person, ironically, she never has to look out for. He has never really known his father, and with Brandon’s recent arrival, finally begins to desire to see Ally as his mother and not a friend.
PAUL (M 30’s to 40’s) – Rich entrepreneur that offers Ally her escape. Dashing, sure of himself in every way; smooth talker, confident, mysterious.
Ally has applied to be a SAG short film, and invites both SAG and non-SAG actors to apply. While a role in the trailer does not guarantee a role in the upcoming feature, it puts you on a very short list.

Rachel,
I am a former grad of the Architecture school at UTA (93). I’m an Architect in Austin. I am also an author and screenwriter. I have been wanting to shoot a feature film in Northeast Texas based on a screenplay I have written about that area. It will be a low budget film and currently I am the sole financier and was going to wear all the hats.
I would like to pick your brain about this project some time. Feel free to email me or call at (512) 218-8711. Good luck with Ally.
