Casting Call and Special FX Make-Up Artist Needed for Feature Film “The Why.”

Synopsis:
The Why is a darkly comic meditation on death, on love’s lost, the obsession of memory, the duality of mind and ultimately the nature of attachment and letting go.

Casting:
Kangaroo Kate & The Lady Kat - The two roles played by the same female actress. Need to be able roller skate decently, throw a punch like they’d teach you in a boxing class, be able to deliver some tongue twister lines, and some rapid fire back and forth dialogue. You don’t need to be able to sing, just lip-sych. Age: (or look) Mid twenties- mid thirties. Kangaroo Kate and The Lady Kat are dual personalities/ psychies within one woman. Kangaroo Kate is the tough, protective outer shell.

The Lady Kat, on the other hand, is the part of Kangaroo Kate that is deeply buried. The Lady Kat has an almost child-like empathy and compassion for others.

Boyo - should be or look to be in his late 20’s, handsome. Boyo’s role is a very emotional one that requires a lot of depth and range, a certain sensitivity. It’s a challenging role, Boyo expresses the whole spectrum of human emotion throughout the film, he is in almost every scene of the film and the actor who plays Boyo must play him on the very edge, at almost all times, he doesn’t get the chance to just breathe very often. The actor needs to express alot through his facial expression, body language and eyes.

Lula - the lead male character’s lost love. Lula must be beautiful, would prefer a woman that looks, or is in her 20’s, she will have dark to jet black hair in the film. The actress playing Lula must be able to cry in the scene and express a lot through her face and eyes- this leads to the following scene where she makes love to Boyo, partial nudity is a requirement, but we can do a lot with only a little partial nudity.

Bettie Sue - this character could be played by a woman anywhere between the ages of 17-50. If at all possible i would rather have the older woman between 40 and 50, 55. This character is important in that she has, not a lot of dialog, but what she says is important and so her delivery is everything. The wise older, slightly jaded but spiritually intact woman, or the young- curious, precocious wise beyond her years teenager.

The Ballerina - a woman between 20 and 30 that can perform a short ballerina dance, someone who’s taken ballet would be great, but any pretty 20-30 year old dancer who could pull of some short little ballerina moves would be fine. This character has no dialogue, just the short dance.

Featured extra’s and extra’s -
Caucasian and Mexican and Black. Drag Queens, Exotic Dancers or actress who aren’t afraid of some nudity. Both tough looking, and good looking people.

Auditions being held in Austin TX beginning June 2

Crew Needed:
make-up artists, special effects: people who’s specialty is in horror- skilled in using/creating prosthetic’s, latex- molding masks, etc…

Paid / Non-Paid: Non-Paid. Will provide credit, food, gas, lodging if needed.
